On this World Polio Day, the Rotary Club of Fremantle stands united with Rotary International and communities worldwide in the fight to eradicate polio. For over 35 years, Rotary has been at the forefront of this monumental global health initiative. Through its End Polio Now campaign, Rotary has helped reduce polio cases by 99.9%, protecting over 3 billion children from this crippling disease.
Polio, a highly infectious virus that can cause paralysis, once affected 350,000 people annually in 125 countries. Today, thanks to the efforts of Rotary and its partners, cases are confined to just a few regions. The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), led by Rotary and partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has vaccinated millions of children, delivered life-saving interventions, and supported surveillance in the most vulnerable communities.
Rotary's work is not yet done. The Rotary Club of Fremantle joins hands with Rotarians around the world to continue this fight, recognizing that as long as polio exists anywhere, it remains a threat everywhere. Polio eradication is within our reach, but it requires continued commitment, funding, and awareness. Every vaccine, every donation, and every moment of advocacy brings us closer to achieving a polio-free world.
On this World Polio Day, we ask for your support. Join us in raising awareness, contributing to the cause, and ensuring that no child will ever again suffer from the devastating effects of polio. Together, we can end polio forever.

Several years ago RC Fremantle sponsored Taylor Han's participation in the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF). Taylor has continued her incredible work, and we are proud to have supported her initiative with grants to assist her in organising educational talks to further promote the competition within the community, reaching students across Western Australia and inspiring more young people to pursue excellence in the medical field.
The Young Doctors' Essay Competition provides a platform for high school students to cultivate the qualities that turn good students into excellent doctors: honesty, compassion, knowledge, competence, and the ability to maintain good medical practice for diverse populations.
If you, or anyone you know, has a cause that could benefit our world or the wonderful Fremantle community, we’d love to hear from you! Let’s work together to create positive change.
